"Tom Arnold weds and then quickly returns to stand-up comedy."

By Jason Tanamor

Tom Arnold is back. The writer, producer, and actor, who’s best known for the Fox Sports Network show, “Best Damn Sports Show Period,” (you thought I was going to say for marrying Roseanne) returns to Iowa to do a stand-up set at Penguin’s Comedy Club in both Cedar Rapids and Davenport.

Arnold established himself to both television and film audiences worldwide by winning a Peabody Award and a Golden Globe. The comedian also cornered the market on playing the resident comic relief in films like “Nine Months,” with Hugh Grant, Julianne Moore, and Robin Williams, “True Lies,” with Arnold Schwarzenegger, “Hero,” with Dustin Hoffman, and “Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery,” with Mike Myers. However, stand-up is where he really became famous.

Arnold has successfully broken out of the comedic stereotype and is becoming a fixture at film festivals by landing more mature and dramatic roles. He received critical praise for his role in “Gardens Of The Night,” opposite John Malkovich and “The Year Of Getting To Know Us,” opposite Sharon Stone, Jimmy Fallon and Lucy Liu.

Arnold began his career in comedy at the University of Iowa before moving to Minneapolis, where he won the Minneapolis Comedy Competition in 1988. He then moved to Los Angeles to write on the highly successful television series, “Roseanne,” before eventually serving as executive producer for the sitcom.

Born in Iowa, Arnold has established a writing scholarship and runs an acting workshop for students at the Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. He is heavily involved in many charities such as The Race to Erase MS, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Best Buddies, Camp del Corazon, The Kayne Eras Center, Promises Foundation, Carousel of Hope, Arnold's Inner City Games, The Hollenbeck Christmas Giveaway, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Tom Arnold returned to his roots as a stand-up comic this year. Never scripted, the comedian pokes fun at his Midwest past, marital follies and absurd Hollywood stories. Just like his past film and television comedy work, Arnold is a frenzy of chaos and charisma on stage.
