It’s the end of the year/decade and the beginning of a new year/decade. It’s around this time that every stupid list comes out. Every website has them (including ours). I love reading these lists because I rarely agree with them and I like disagreeing; I think it is fun. According to a poll at www.moviefone.com Megan Fox was voted worst actress of 2009. Don’t feel too bad for her as she was also voted sexiest actress of the year.
Michael Bay made Megan Fox a household name when he introduced her to the world with “Transformers.” Fox owes Bay, so she starred in “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” and will probably go on to star in future the “Transformer” films. From what I hear “Transformers 2” was dreadful, but I didn’t see it, so I really can’t judge. What I did see was the Diablo Cody (“Juno”) penned film “Jennifer’s Body” in which Fox was the star.
“Jennifer’s Body” was a box office dud. Critically, it got mixed reviews. Roger Ebert actually gave it a thumb up. I really liked the movie and found it surprisingly original. It’s your typical high school horror movie with Diablo Cody dialogue. When it was stupid, it was trying to be stupid; when it was funny it was trying to be funny. It was great. Megan Fox was perfect in the role of Jennifer. She was the unattainable girl in high school who knew she was hot. She wasn’t very likable which I think is what may have turned some people off. She played the role every bit as well as Ellen Page played the role of “Juno.” That’s right, I said it.

Here’s actually a review I read of Megan Fox in “Jennifer’s Body:” “Megan was voted the worst actress of the year….Frankly, we at MrSkin.com agree…and “Jennifer's Body” featured a semi-chaste lesbian kiss but nothing else….Some R rating that was.” So Mr. Skin agreed that Megan Fox was the worst actress of 2009 because she wasn’t naked in “Jennifer’s Body?” This is the point where you start to wonder why I’m going after Mr. Skin. Truth is I’m not going after Mr. Skin, just thought it’d be funny if the only credible source on the other side of my argument was Mr. Skin. I’m not Diablo Cody, so forgive me for falling flat with that attempted joke.
Back to “Jennifer’s Body” for a minute, I really enjoyed this movie and I definitely recommend this movie if you’re a fan of horror movies (or “Juno”) and are looking for something original. Everybody delivers an exceptional performance. Specifically Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody - yes Adam Brody is in this, but it’s possible you won’t recognize him at first. He actually steals the scene whenever he’s on screen. He’s perfect in his role; I’m not going to tell you much about it, because it’ll be more fun for you to figure out on your own.
So, I’ll let all of you get back to your best or worst of 2009/decade lists. I just felt the need to defend Megan Fox, because as you know she needs an overweight, 30 year old, bald guy to defend her, someone other than Brian Austin Green. Check out “Jennifer’s Body” on DVD and if you find yourself with a lot of time on your hands check out “The United States of Tara” season one on DVD, another Diablo Cody project. Yeah, I’m a fan of Diablo Cody; she’s the female Kevin Smith.
