I’m not much of a country music fan, but one of our subscribers caught a Darryl Worley show and took the time to email me her review of the show. Darryl Worley, the Tennessee native is out on tour in support of his album “Sounds Like Life.” If any of you out there see a show and want to send me the review I’d be happy to get it up on our site.
Sounds like life is going real well for Darryl Worley these days as his new hit single “Sounds Like Life to Me” has hit the country music radio waves and has been in the Billboard Top 20 for weeks now. Friday, October 9th, Worley opened up his performance at Bettendorf’s Waterfront Convention Center with “Honkytonk Life,” the first song on his newly released album.
This sixth album in Worley’s collection of musical tributes to learning life lessons, remembering American heroes, and exploring the trials and tribulations of love, has proved to be another great addition to the country music world. Friday night fans were treated to several songs off of Worley’s new album. “Best of Both Worlds,” “Tequila on Ice,” and the aforementioned “Sounds Like Life to Me” were among the songs on the evening’s set list.
After delivering several songs, including “I Miss My Friend,” a song off of Worley’s album “Have You Forgotten,” during which a young couple enjoyed a passionate slow dance, Worley played one of his most popular tunes, “Tennessee River Run,” also from “Have You Forgotten.” An excited crowd was then prompted to make their way to the front of the stage to “cut it up.”
With the crowd on their feet, Worley headed into his new tune “Tequilla Sunrise” and then onto the southern rock tune “Jumpin’ Off the Wagon,” which he joked was a “love song to an old record label.” With the crowd going wild, the sounds of “Nothin’ But a Love Thang” rang throughout the venue sending all the ladies right back to the images of a shaggy haired Worley and his Drake Motel rendezvous in the 2006 music video.
After all the excitement, fans are again reminded why they love Worley so much. His compassion for others, especially for our great American troops has continued to ring clear in songs like “I Just Came Back From War” and “Have You Forgotten.” “If you were gone for a day it would be a different world,” Worley stated as he took the time to recognize our troops, and send a special “thank you” to our local service men and women in the audience.
It was an awful beautiful end to a great show as Worley and his band polished the night off with the popular “Awful Beautiful World” from the 2004 self-titled album, “Darryl Worley.” Fans were left satisfied, and even spoiled. Since cast members from “Trick My Truck,” CMT’s reality big-rig makeover show, were unable to attend due to illness, Worley treated the crowd to a few extra songs. Guests were still able to view two customized trucks in the Convention Center’s lot, which showcased the amazing work of Kelvin Locklear, Rob Richardson, and Ryan “Ryno” Templeton, the cast and talent behind “Trick My Truck.”
Worley keeps it simple. His fans got exactly what they had expected, a solid performance from the man who sings about what he knows and how he feels. The show was not riddled with spectacular lights or props, or any other gimmicks to take away from the true meaning of the music.
