There are six levels of fat. Of the six, with six being “Oh, hell no!” Gabriel Iglesias is a five – “Damn!” And that’s OK. Because the comedian knows he’s fat. Actually, from the title of the DVD, Gabriel Iglesias is not fat, he’s fluffy.
In his third live comedy special, “I’m Not Fat…I’m Fluffy,” taped at the Plaza Theatre in El Paso, Texas, Iglesias talks about hanging out with his comedic idol, Paul Rodriguez, in which the two of them go to a strip club where Rodriguez is quick to announce that he’s in the house. Iglesias jokes about watching girls flock to his idol, to which he says, “I need to get funnier.”
The comedian also discusses the notion that fluffy people can’t have small cars, such as the kind Iglesias drove years ago – a VW Beetle. “Hanging out with comics, all they did was make fun of me.” Iglesias notes that being fluffy in a small car renders jokes like, “How did you get a stretch mark on the windshield?” And, “If you fart, will it (the car) go faster?”
Another topic that Iglesias hits on is getting hit on – by gay men. “They look at me like I look at tacos.” From showing his appreciation for being well known to performing in Iraq, “I’m Not Fat…I’m Fluffy,” is an hour long ride of Iglesias’ life of a comedian.

However, the main subject involves his relationship with his girlfriend and her 10-year-old son, Frankie, to whom the comedy special is dedicated. Iglesias tells his girlfriend that Frankie can look at him as a father figure and when Frankie does, Iglesias finds himself in dad-like situations. With those situations, there are times when the comedian has to make it up to Frankie. From going to Disneyland to a hysterical bit where Iglesias and Frankie play “Dance, Dance, Revolution,” the special is non-stop funny.
What I love about Iglesias is the fact he appreciates his success and his fans, often crediting them with where he is in life. He remembers his days as an unknown comic and relishes his time as a comedian whose name is gaining worldwide recognition. Iglesias’ down to earth and fun loving spirit makes him easy to love, and his sense of humor carries him to a superstardom level.
